Sometimes We Need Bumpers

"In this life you will have trouble," - Jesus, John 16:33

Boy, ain't THAT the truth!

Sometimes life can feel pretty overwhelming. So how do we cope with all the bad things that keep coming at us? Hmm. How about bumpers!

When I was a Big Brother, my Little and I went bowling. He insisted on using the bumpers. Made it more fun he said. Ha! I lost. I tried bowling straight and true - not using any bumpers. My Little Brother bounced his ball not once, not twice, but three times off the bumpers. And he'd get a strike!

Do you remember in the first Star Wars movie when Luke Skywalker was battling Darth Vader? A couple minutes into the following video Darth Vader stops battling Luke personally and just keeps throwing hurtful things at him. Eventually, it was more than Luke could handle and he falls. Luke could have used some bumpers during that battle and on his way down. And so it can be with us.

Darth vs. Luke

In the world we live in, we are battling all of life's struggles and events. Satan (Darth Vader) keeps throwing all kinds of things at us, hoping WE will fall. And sometimes we do. Where's the bumpers to keep us out of the gutter?

How do we battle such a powerful, dark "force" in our lives? How can we overcome when life's struggles and tragedies are thrown at us?

We keep reading. The verse at the top of this post is only a partial verse. Jesus continues on with theses encouraging words for us. And gives us hope!

"but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

Those words should bring great hope to the believer and non-believer alike. Great joy too. With Jesus, we can overcome anything!

Here are some other words from God that also have an encouraging ring to them.

"Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.” - Deuteronomy 31:6

No matter what we are going through, no matter what obstacles we face in life. we can overcome them through our faith in Jesus. That's huge!

Don't be afraid to lean on Jesus as you walk through this life. He WANTS you to do that! Sometimes a talk with Jesus, or a talk with one of His children, can be all we need to help us in times of trouble

In this life we WILL have trouble, but fear not, we can overcome our troubles - with Jesus.
